You may recall that only last week I posted that I was testing Kontera.
Well, today I’ve taken the decision to remove them from Money Blogger.
I really don’t like removing potential sources of revenue, but Kontera just had to go. Here’s the main reasons behind my decision:
I have no idea why they would want to prevent people from promoting them. Maybe it’s to give them an air of exclusivity. But for such a spammy looking product, that’s just never going to fly.
Overall, Kontera is difficult to use, slow, low paying and ugly.
But it was having to send emails just to add a new site or find out that I wasn’t eligible for their affiliate program that was the kicker for me. For all I know, the Kontera people may be lovely, but technically speaking their service is poorly implemented, and the whole system is poorly documented.
I will continue to experiment with Kontera on my personal blog (assuming they don’t shut my account after seeing this negative review!), but unless and until things improve substantially, I won’t be using them on Money Blogger.

1Hi, I totally agree with you as I have tried Kontera but it made my blog too slow and revenue is 1/1000 of Adsense or other programs

2I have not tried Kontera but it sounds like a bad ads network. I would like to recommend Fair Ads Network! Unlike google they offer you the usage of earnings towards your own ads. Please check them out @ http://www.dwdnetworkonline.com/recommends/FairAds.php
Check it,

3I have been with Kontera about 3 days now and have already earned over $2.86 in that time, so far, I am very pleased with them.

4Hi Dom,
This Vered from Kontera – we don’t believe in censuring our publishers :)and consider reviews, even the negative ones, as important feedback to help us improve.
However I’d like to address some of the issues you’ve mentioned:
1. If placed correctly right before the closing HTML tag our ad code is last to load so it doesn’t slow down overall page load up.
2. Our Zone and Filter Tags enable you to determine where no ContentLinks will be featured – so I’m not sure what you meant in not having any control over ad placement. Our ads require user interaction in order to be activated and the content of the page is analyzed each time it loads to maximize ad relevancy. This is quite different from other forms of online advertising that grant users no choice whether to be exposed to them or not.
3. True, we do have 2 main terms for joining our Affiliate Program – being our partner for at least 3 months and reaching the $100/month revenue, I don’t see why you’d consider these as being unachievable for “the majority of bloggers.” Email me if you’re interested in joining the program, I’ll gladly re-check what can be done.
4. With regards to adding new sites to a Kontera account – at the moment this indeed requires emailing us, however this option will soon be included in Kontera’s Publisher Center, and our partners will be able to do so themselves.
I’ll gladly provide you with any additional information and hope you’ll continue working with us.
Vered,
Publisher Services Manager

5I have it on a couple of sites, pay is a bit low though, and they could do with better landing pages, sometimes “online game” would come up for shopping.com, but im still trying it.

6Done…I’m pulling Kontera off of jcyreus.com right now.
Good write up Dom, I thought it was just crappy connectivity or bandwidth throttling on behalf of my low cost hosting service.

7I think Chitika Linx is a very good alternative to kontera. You may wanna test it.

9I too have removed Kontera for a long time ago. I think, for 2 months ago I earned about $1/click. Now Kontera is totally changed and the revenue rate is too low. If any one want to use ads like Kontera then I want to recommend to use Chitika. ;) Thats all!

10I would recommend using Infolinks rather than using Kontera, it’s a much better system that pays considerably better too!

11The revenue from Kontera is much too low. I made five times what I made with Google adsense over the same period—consistently.

13I also removed my kontera plugin after 6 months. Hehe. I’m so happy i was paid for my earnings with kontera. Even if they paid me, I’m still not happy with them that’s why I totally removed kontera in my blog.
After removing kontera, I lived happily ever after. :)

14I removed kontera from my blog as AdSense earning dropped and Kontera could and would never compensate for this loss!!
I even had Kontera showing ad links on top of MY links!!
It had to go!!

15Kontera is earning me about 75 cents per day, about 25 dollars a month. It’s OK and the loading times are faster, possible upgrade. I normally make 50 dollars a month on adsense and 60 dollars a month with adsdaq. Adsdaq is by far the best since it pays per impression, not click. It gives me a consistent, predictable stream of revenue and will continue to grow.

Kontera Does Not Do Well

17Hi,
I actually push a lot of traffic to Kontera and I have to say that I am very very displeased with them, I have a HIGH quality website with nice content and then just pay pennies and I mean pennies on the dollar.
I asked to increase my cpm and they just “loaded more ads” on my page,
Sorry, I would personally recommend Vibrant Media if you have the traffic.
Kontera needs to really learn the cpm game.
I mean they don’t even let you see your stats after six months……..
Anyhow, Nice write up and I agree, Kontera needs some definite improvement for sure.

18Just, tried Kontera in an expirement and I have to say the pay per click is horrible almost laughable. It only lasted 1 day on my site. The links that they place in your text always go to some bs search engine. I am testing chitika linx now, although I have to say Adsense has been a consistent and much more reliable income stream than either Chitika or Kontera. Chitika’s pay per click is also questionable, when you are getting some 3,000 page views per day and a good ctr and still a ecpm, then I question the ad company. If you want a good program then go with Adsense, they are fair all the way around. I will also test Microsofts Pubcenter in a couple of days as well.

19Kontera is a total pathetic joke. I would use swear words here to describe them, but I have refrained myself from that. Do yourself a favor and never even waste the 5 minutes it takes to sign up for the company. Typical payouts are 0.01-0.04 for an ad click. And Kontera when installed on your site slows it down so horribly bad that customers start complaining. I think this company is in serious financial trouble, because the only reason to pay so low per click would be because margins at the company are facing tough pressure. Kontera should do themselves a favor and shut-down, because no self respecting web administrator would put this garbage on their site. I just want everyone to know this before they sign up, because it will hurt your bottomline and they won’t refund you. Plus the ads aren’t targeted properly. Who cares if they actually respond on a comment board. Ever notice google doesn’t? that’s because they are a real company that can afford to pay publishers when it’s all said and done. I think Kontera is making so little in terms of revenue that it actually can’t afford to pay out publishers because they need to keep the lights on at the building. What a scam.

20Hey Dom,
It is true that Kontera hasn’t been performing well. It did horribly for my websites too and now I’ve been using Affinity (don’t know if you guys have heard of them), and the earnings look way better. It’s been 8 months that I’ve been using them and seems really good. You guys should try Affinity out and see if it works.
Cheers,
Sam.
