Jonathan Fields came up with the great idea of mailing top bloggers and asking them this:

“If you had 2-hours a day to devote to no-cost, off-blog (even off-line) marketing for your blog, what would you do?”

Jonathan got some great responses from a wide range of bloggers which are well worth a read, but the article itself is a great example of no-cost marketing.

This kind of article – mailing other bloggers in your niche and asking their opinion on a specific topic – not only makes good reading, but also attracts inbound links from the bloggers who respond (who can resist linking to themselves?).
