New year is traditionally a time for new beginnings and more often than not, resolutions.
For those of us trying to make money from blogging, new years resolutions can be a great way to start the new year – providing, of course, that you come up with resolutions you can stick to.
But what should those resolutions be?
Obviously, you could resolve to earn a million dollars this year, but that’s probably not going to work out for most of us. In fact, making earnings-based resolutions is probably a bad idea, simply because it’s something you don’t have direct control of.
It’s important to come up with ideas that you have control of and know you can stick to. Don’t go setting yourself unachievable goals, or your resolutions won’t last a week, never mind a year.
So here’s a few ideas that might work for you:
- Treat blogging more like a job.
Set yourself regular hours and a comfortable environment for blogging.
- Post regularly.
Nobody likes an empty looking blog, and more content means more ad revenue.
- Find at least one new advertiser every month.
Adsense and Text Link Ads are great, but if you sell ads yourself, you’re cutting out the middle man. I’ll be writing more about how to find advertisers for your blog in an upcoming article, so make sure you’re subscribed.
- Do a full weekly backup!
It might sound obvious, but it’s absolutely vital to keep regular backups of your blog – including the database. Start the new year by getting into the habit of backing up your blog at least once a week.
- Do a monthly clean-up.
Set aside time once a month to clean up your blog. Check for dead links, update your blogroll, remove old widgets and generally check that everything’s working as it should be.
Those are just a few ideas – I’m sure you can think of more. What are your new years resolutions?
