I’ve mentioned the value of running competitions a couple of times already, but I just wanted to share the results of the Chocablog competition that’s just finished.

The competition ran for a couple of weeks, with entrants having to subscribe to the email version of Chocablog’s RSS feed, then fill out a tie-breaker.

In the two-week period that the competition was running, Chocablog managed to pick up 200 new subscribers from the competition alone. Given that the cost of the prize was around £10 ($20), that’s about 10 cents per subscriber. That’s not bad at all!

Of course, in order to get the attention of all these potential new subscribers, I had to submit the competition to several “prize finder” competition web sites. It’s also likely that I’ll lose some of those new subscribers now the competition has closed. But with the promise of more competitions coming in the new year, I’m hopeful Chocablog will keep most of those new subscribers.
