Ok, so this may not be in the same league is the utter stupidity Google has showed over AdSense referrals, but it’s stupid and annoying nonetheless.
Google has decided to migrate all Adsense logins to Google (Gmail) accounts.
That’s mildly frustrating, but not a huge deal. I currently log in to AdSense with my own email address, but I have a Gmail account I can use.

Except there’s a problem. Back in 2003 when I first set up my AdSense account, I used that Gmail login, but I messed up. So there’s now dormant, unapproved account attached to my Gmail address and I can’t use it with my working AdSense account.
The upshot is, that if I want to keep using Adsense, I need to create another Google account. Another Gmail address. And another password to forget.
I don’t want another Google account! One is more than enough!
I had a very similar issue with Google Analytics a couple of weeks ago. A friend wanted to give me access to his account (a useful feature of Analytics), but because I already have an Analytics account of my own, the only way I could do it would have been to set up an entirely new Google login.
Having to set up multiple accounts is just plain stupid. But Google is going to insist users make the switch, simply because it makes consolidating all that data – and hence tracking your every move online – so much easier. Sigh.

1Hi,
One Google account is never enough. I guess it depends on your needs, but you can organize yourself better to manage your passwords and accounts.
Laziness is a bad excuse.

2You’re not serious are you? Laziness does not come into it in any way.
I’ve been a web developer for many years, and I can tell you that if a web site forces you to open multiple accounts just to use their basic services, then there’s something wrong with the site, not the user.

3I’m not seeing this … maybe it’s being rolled out slowly?
But I don’t want a gmail / hotmail / whatever account. I have too many mail accounts already. If they insist, I will simply move away from adsense. They’re no longer the only possible source of revenue.
Cliff.

5Cliff: I imagine it’s something that’s being rolled out gradually. I don’t believe Google are just picking on me. :)
Nikihunden: That’s exactly the problem. Google want me to have two accounts. At least.

6Agreed. I had the same problem. Now I have to create a new account.
Flickr has the same problem with yahoo too. Very annoying!
