Darren Rowse is reporting that many people are noticing Google has messed up their November Adsense payments.

Unbelievably, Google appear to have applied the wrong exchange rate when converting payments in to local currency. Instead of multiplying by the exchange rate, Google appear to have divided, leaving people significantly out of pocket.

At the moment, it looks like it’s an issue that’s only affecting publishers in Australia and New Zealand.

I’m in the UK, and my payment looked Ok, but you should definitely check your own Adsense account – particularly if you’re in Australia or New Zealand. If you think something’s wrong, email Adsense support at adsense-support[at]google.com.

As for how such a problem could occur in a a company like Google, well my mind is still boggling. It’s such an elementary error for a company who insist all employees have degrees and pass several aptitude tests before they even get to interview stage.

Perhaps they should add “a modicum of common sense” to those requirements in future, because this looks like human error to me – and a rather embarrassing one at that.
