36 cents!

Ok, so it’s revenue rather than profit as I’m still out of pocket for the domain name, but it goes to show you can make money from your very first day blogging. That 36 cents came from one click generated by 78 page views.

The other interesting statistic is that Feedburner is reporting we have 12 subscribes already. I’m not sure how accurate that will be with a single day’s data, but it’s an encouraging start.

You might be wondering how I managed to get any traffic at all to Money Blogger on the first day. This was quite simple:

  • I wrote a short post on my personal blog about it.
  • I posted the link on Facebook
  • I added the link to various other sites I run

I should say that you really need to be careful when sharing links to your own sites with your friends. There is a very fine line between “sharing” and “spamming”, so think very carefully about what you want to say and who you want to send it to. Particularly if your blog is about making money!

Of course, 78 page views is very, very low traffic – and it’s certainly not going to generate $20,000 a month. At some point I will need to do something bigger to get attention, but right now I’m not ready to do that as there’s still things I need to do before trying to get a significant readership – like write an “About Moneyblogger” page, for instance…
