Well the iPod Nano competition has finished, and the winner was Andrew Bowers. His iPod is in the post and I hope he enjoys it as much as I have.

The competition was a great success with over 60 entries and lots of new readers as a result. Money Blogger’s Technorati ranking went from around 300,000 to 67,000, and that was the whole point of running a competition of that form. With every entry another blogger is publicising the competition – and the blog as a whole.

When it comes down to it, making money from blogging is a simple three step process:

  1. Write good content
  2. Publicise the content (get new readers)
  3. Monetize the content (sell advertising)

This competition – and most blog competitions – was aimed squarely at point 2 – publicising the content. So if you’re thinking of running a competition yourself, keep that in mind when coming up with a format for it.
