I’ve mentioned before how competitions and contests can be a great way to increase subscriber numbers and reader loyalty, but here’s an example from one of my own blogs.

Chocablog is a blog all about chocolate. We review chocolates, post recipes, chocolate related news, links and a whole lot more. Every now and then, we run a competition, and we’ve just posted our Christmas competition.

To enter, readers need to subscribe to the email version of Chocablog’s RSS feed, then fill in a simple tie-breaker.

Chocablog

We usually get a few hundred entires for our competitions, so by definition this should increase our subscriber numbers fairly significantly. What’s more, the prize (1Kg of chocolate) is not particularly expensive, so it works out to be a very cost effective way to increase readership.

If you’re doing something similar and wondering how to get the word out, try submitting your competition to one of the many competition prize finder sites out there. So what are you wating for? Christmas is coming, and that’s the perfect time to be running a competition on your own blog!
