It’s been a while since I’ve mentioned Blogrush, but as I’m still using it and it’s still doing quite well for me, I thought I’d do another quick update.
If you’ve not heard of Blogrush, it’s that grey widget at the bottom of the right hand column on this page. It shows headlines from your blog’s “niche” on other people’s blog, in return for showing their headlines on your blog. You earn credits each time you display the widget and also when the people your refer to Blogrush (your network) display the widget.
I now have 50 bloggers in my Blogrush network, and I’ve found that it’s working quite well for me. I’m at the stage where most of my credits come from the fact that I’ve referred other people. And that’s when Blogrush works best. If you don’t have many readers of page views, you’re not likely to refer many people or build up credits. And if you don’t get many credits, your blog posts aren’t going to get displayed on other people’s widgets.
But if you have a good number of readers or lots of traffic, then it’s quite possible to do very well out of it.
As you can see, I don’t have a great deal of traffic from Blogrush, but those numbers go up as the size of my network increases.
One of the useful things I’ve noticed is the stats page which shows how many times each of your blog post titles have been clicked (”Banned from Adsense?” was a particularly effective post title). That’s really good for helping you to write post titles that grab people’s attention. Attention grabbing headlines mean readers are more likely to click through to your site – and not just from the Blogrush widget. Your RSS subscribers are more likely to visit the site directly if you grab their attention straight away.
Overall, I don’t think you’re ever going to get huge amounts of traffic from Blogrush, no matter how popular your blog. But as a way of attracting new readers, I think it can work. But like most things in life, you have to put a little work into it (promote it to your readers and optimise your post titles) in order to get the most out of it.
