I mentioned a few days ago that I’d been experimenting with AdToll, so I thought I’d give my initial impressions.

Put simply, AdToll is an ad marketplace. You can buy or sell ads, and AdToll handles all the hard work of finding buyers/sellers and processing payments. If you’ve used Text-Link-Ads, it works in a similar way, except the ads are more conventional Javascript ads rather than potentially dodgy text links.

The sign-up process is very straightforward, and you’re taken to your account page straight after signing up. There are separate areas on the page for publishers (ad space you’re selling), advertisers (ads you’re buying) and affiliates. There’s no separate sign-up for advertisers, so if you want, you can plough andy ad revenue straight back into advertising your own stuff.

Every account comes with an affiliate link, so whether you’re an advertiser or publisher, you can make money (10% of publisher earnings for a year or 20% of advertiser bookings for 90 days) by referring new publishers or advertisers to the network.

But for me, one of the most interesting things about AdToll is the “run of network” ads. This effectively allows you to monetize your unsold ad space on a pay per click basis. Advertisers buy space for their niche on the entire network rather than on a single site, so you can start earning money from day one.

There’s a whole lot more to AdToll than I’ve got time to go into here, but I like what I’ve seen so far. I’m still getting my head around everything it has to offer, but I’ll report back in more detail on how well it’s working for me next month.
